We follow with the sequence of the song "Tears on my Pillow" in wich Lola is lying on the bed in the hotel room where she lives with her mother. Mrs. Lovell is speaking to her daughter about men, tell her that all men are equals and look for the same thing on a woman so she must take care of them. Lola says that they were only kissing and remains absorbed thinking and saying in low voice: "I am loved, I am loved, I am loved". Her mother goes on speaking and do not understand what her daugther says becaause she is speaking in a very low voice.
Lola and Brownie have taken leave of their parents through a letter and they are in the train fleeing from the boring and repressive life of Bundaberg. Brownie offers to Lola a ring and both they feel happy and they fantasize on the places they are going to visit, all the places that known through the books. Lola remembers to him that she is embarrassed but Brownie responds to her that the three will go together because they are free.
This is a dramatical scene. Mrs. Lovell has not been satisfied to knowing by letter that her daughter has gone away of house being smaller and being pregnant and she has been following with the police car that reaches the train in which they go Lola and Brownie. Brownie has taken advantage of train stop to bring coffee to Lola and when he returns it finds with the police and Mrs Lovell who are taking Lola to the force. Brownie see what is happening and runs to help Lola who is crying to Brownie asking for help but when Brownie arrives one of the police strike Brownie with a terrible punch.
Lola is in a hotel with her mother and taking advantage of she has left, she quickly makes the suitcase with the intention to escape but when she goes to open the door is whereupon that it is closed with key and when it tries to open the window, it is closed too and she cannot escape being crying heartbroken.
